In the Cloud or on Premise?

Written by Todd Martin on .

You Have Options with Sage CRM

If you’ve been considering Sage CRM but still wondering which version is right for you - in the cloud or in your server room - this article can provide some helpful insight.

Sage CRM Cloud

Sage CRM Cloud is ideal for companies that want to get up and running quickly or have limited in-house IT expertise. Since it’s in the cloud you don’t have to worry about managing servers and workstations, and nightly database backups are performed automatically.

On the financial side, there is no hardware or software to purchase so the up-front costs are minimal. Essentially you’re “renting” Sage CRM, paying monthly for the use of software-as-a-service (SaaS).

One aspect of Sage CRM Cloud to consider is that it does not integrate with your Sage 100 ERP system. Therefore, you wouldn’t experience the workflow and data sharing benefits we’ve discussed in previous blogs of connecting your sales and marketing activities with back-office accounting and operations in one single system and database.

MAS has encountered a problem

Written by Todd Martin on .

Don't you just love it when you get a generic error message saying your system encountered a problem and needs to close. We recently ran into such an error. The image below is what it looked like. It would appear a few seconds after logging into Sage 100.

MAS Encountered a problem and needs to close

At least they were polite and told us that they were sorry for the inconvenience but it would have been nice if they would have told me why the error happened. This error would show every time the user would log into Sage 100. The user would click close and continue to work in the system without any noticeable issues.

This all happened after installing a service update for version 4.4. It was hard to troubleshoot the since there were no errors in the log stating that this happened or why it happened. No error number or debug information.

Database Choices for MAS 200 - Native C-ISAM or Microsoft SQL

Written by Todd Martin on .

It has been a long time since we addressed this subject on our website. We posted a database white paper after Sage MAS 200 for SQL was first introduced. There had been much interest in a SQL version of MAS 200 ever since SQL had become a popular technical buzzword and a "de facto" requirement for modern software. But few prospective users understood the trade-offs between SQL and the C-ISAM database intrinsic to the standard version.

We have all had days filled with troubleshooting problems and remedying mistakes or oversights. Often these problems could have been avoided if only we had some foreknowledge, if somehow we had been alerted to the situation.
