Don't ruin your day with power outages

BatteryDon't let your day be ruined by power outages. Make sure that you have your office servers and workstations protected with an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS). A UPS can prolong the life of equipment, keep data from being lost or corrupted. Has your UPS been talking to you? Those high pitched beeps might be telling you that your battery needs to be replaced. If you haven't changed the UPS battery in a while, it might be time for a new one. A UPS is only as good as the battery in it!

Need help with this? Call us at 678-495-5700 and see about having a network support tech help you. If you know you haven't replaced your battery in a few years it might be a good time to switch it out before it does go bad.

Sage Sales Tax Powered By AvaTax

Until recently, most small businesses with only one or two locations have not had to worry much about collecting sales tax–when selling locally, they charged the local sales tax rate, and when shipping out of state, no sales tax applied. But that is changing.

ASP Web Applications accessing MAS 90

Sage MAS 90 ERP and Sage MAS 200 ERP have an e-Business application for users who wish to have an internet store for customers (B2B) and consumers (B2C). These are great, out of the box, applications if you want to keep your site simple and to the point. Most everything is configured through the accounting interface. HTML can be added in the descriptions to give the site a custom look without having to have a programmer develop your shopping cart. During the check out process it will charge the credit card with Sage payment services or PcCharge and all the transactions flow through the accounting system No import or export. It is really a great application but like I stated before it is a very basic, out of the box, solution.  It lacks in Search Engine Optimization (SEO), Suggestive Selling, Social Media Links, Tell a Friend/E-Mail info, PDF of page, Human Readable URLs, and many other features and functions that most of today’s commerce websites have.

Smaller is better, when it comes to email

Most users of email take for granted how easy it is to send email. Email has become a staple in everyday life. Not only are we using email at work but now we are using email at home and we have come to depend on it. Email is no longer just text being sent. We want to share more than just words. We want to attach documents and pictures. Before you know it an email that was very small 100KB now becomes 8MB and is on its way through the Internet. Or so you thought!

Most email providers will cap email size due to the resources used when sending, receiving and storing email. Typical caps on email could be from 2mb to 10 mb with an average of 6-8 mb for most ISPs. Image trying to carry into your house 100 grocery bags full of food at one time. They are too many bags and they weigh too much to carry at one time. Email is the same way. Having an email too large would keep the system from performing hence the reason ISP and email providers will cap email size.

Client/Server - Fat Client vs. Thin Client

This is another article found in the depths of our archives about Client Server architecture. It contrasts the Fat Client implementation of MAS 90 with the Thin Client of MAS 200. This white paper was written to help our clients understand the difference between Sage MAS 90 and Sage MAS 200.

Business Insights Explorer (BIE)

Business Insights Explorer (BIE) provides comprehensive business intelligence, plus workflow and reporting tools that enable users to quickly drill down and get specific data on customers and much more. BIE includes 75 predesigned views, that allows users to quickly find information they need. Beyond business intelligence, BIE streamlines the workflow process by enabling users to navigate directly to and perform tasks directly from BIE.

An example of this can be seen in the video where a customer service rep answers a call and they need to find the customer in the system and change their repetative order.

Client/Server - The Performance and Reliability Advantage

This is a duplicate article. It is a prior version of the Fat Client vs. Thin Client article. It was so good we had to keep it on here and just link back to it.

Are you running an older version of Sage MAS 90 ERP? Customers tell us they stay on older versions because of the time and money they spent having custom reports built. Database Choices for MAS 200 - Native C-ISAM or Microsoft SQL

It has been a long time since we addressed this subject on our website. We posted a database white paper after Sage MAS 200 for SQL was first introduced. There had been much interest in a SQL version of MAS 200 ever since SQL had become a popular technical buzzword and a "de facto" requirement for modern software. But few prospective users understood the trade-offs between SQL and the C-ISAM database intrinsic to the standard version.

Should you trust your data to someone else?

I found an article today about Carbonite, an online backup service, that is suing their supplier, Promise, due to a product that they bought that didn't work. Too bad this supplier wasn't for a door that was not closing properly. Instead they were the supplier for a RAID system that would guaranteethat the backups they have would be available in case of failure. The company (Carbonite) lost 7,500 customers data when drives did fail. I would not want to be one of those customers trusting an outside source to manage my data. Read more about this atwww.channelregister.co.uk.

If you are worried about your data being backed up, contact us for a quote on our preferred method of backups.
