Don't ruin your day with power outages

BatteryDon't let your day be ruined by power outages. Make sure that you have your office servers and workstations protected with an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS). A UPS can prolong the life of equipment, keep data from being lost or corrupted. Has your UPS been talking to you? Those high pitched beeps might be telling you that your battery needs to be replaced. If you haven't changed the UPS battery in a while, it might be time for a new one. A UPS is only as good as the battery in it!

Need help with this? Call us at 678-495-5700 and see about having a network support tech help you. If you know you haven't replaced your battery in a few years it might be a good time to switch it out before it does go bad.

Customer-Requested Enhancements In Sage MAS 90 Version 4.4

The Version 4.4 release of Sage MAS 90 and 200 ERP is just around the corner. Version 4.4 includes some major customer-requested enhancements.

Modules In The New Business Framework

Over the last four releases Sage has been converting modules into the new Business Framework. With the release of Sage MAS 90 and 200 ERP Version 4.4, the Inventory Management, Purchase Order, Bill of Materials, and Bar Code modules will be migrated to the Business Framework.

Sage Sales Tax Powered By AvaTax

Until recently, most small businesses with only one or two locations have not had to worry much about collecting sales tax–when selling locally, they charged the local sales tax rate, and when shipping out of state, no sales tax applied. But that is changing.

ASP Web Applications accessing MAS 90

Sage MAS 90 ERP and Sage MAS 200 ERP have an e-Business application for users who wish to have an internet store for customers (B2B) and consumers (B2C). These are great, out of the box, applications if you want to keep your site simple and to the point. Most everything is configured through the accounting interface. HTML can be added in the descriptions to give the site a custom look without having to have a programmer develop your shopping cart. During the check out process it will charge the credit card with Sage payment services or PcCharge and all the transactions flow through the accounting system No import or export. It is really a great application but like I stated before it is a very basic, out of the box, solution.  It lacks in Search Engine Optimization (SEO), Suggestive Selling, Social Media Links, Tell a Friend/E-Mail info, PDF of page, Human Readable URLs, and many other features and functions that most of today’s commerce websites have.

Smaller is better, when it comes to email

Most users of email take for granted how easy it is to send email. Email has become a staple in everyday life. Not only are we using email at work but now we are using email at home and we have come to depend on it. Email is no longer just text being sent. We want to share more than just words. We want to attach documents and pictures. Before you know it an email that was very small 100KB now becomes 8MB and is on its way through the Internet. Or so you thought!

Most email providers will cap email size due to the resources used when sending, receiving and storing email. Typical caps on email could be from 2mb to 10 mb with an average of 6-8 mb for most ISPs. Image trying to carry into your house 100 grocery bags full of food at one time. They are too many bags and they weigh too much to carry at one time. Email is the same way. Having an email too large would keep the system from performing hence the reason ISP and email providers will cap email size.

Payroll Processing-In House, Outsource, Or The Best Of Both?

What is the most efficient and cost effective way to handle your payroll processing? In this article, we will discuss the pluses and minuses of handling payroll in house versus outsourcing to a service, and cover one way you can have the best of both options.

New Parallel Migration Smooths Upgrade Process

Picking the right time to upgrade your software is often a tricky proposition. Even a well-planned upgrade can sometimes run into difficulties. There can be data corruption issues, reports that don't print quite right, or changes that require staff retraining. To avoid downtime, companies often try to upgrade over the weekend, adding time pressure to the equation. Now with the Sage Parallel Migration Wizard, we can take some of the stress out of upgrading and make the process less time sensitive.

The Bill Of Materials Module: More Than Its Name

The Sage MAS 90 ERP Bill of Materials module is not just for manufacturing, it can help you to do much more than its name implies. Early next year, the Bill of Materials module will be updated to the Business Framework with the Version 4.4 release.

Client/Server - Fat Client vs. Thin Client

This is another article found in the depths of our archives about Client Server architecture. It contrasts the Fat Client implementation of MAS 90 with the Thin Client of MAS 200. This white paper was written to help our clients understand the difference between Sage MAS 90 and Sage MAS 200.

Business Insights Explorer (BIE)

Business Insights Explorer (BIE) provides comprehensive business intelligence, plus workflow and reporting tools that enable users to quickly drill down and get specific data on customers and much more. BIE includes 75 predesigned views, that allows users to quickly find information they need. Beyond business intelligence, BIE streamlines the workflow process by enabling users to navigate directly to and perform tasks directly from BIE.

An example of this can be seen in the video where a customer service rep answers a call and they need to find the customer in the system and change their repetative order.

Client/Server - The Performance and Reliability Advantage

This is a duplicate article. It is a prior version of the Fat Client vs. Thin Client article. It was so good we had to keep it on here and just link back to it.

 Managing Your Cash Flow

Avoiding cash flow crunches is often a challenge, particularly in tough economic times. Customers start paying a little later, while at the same time suppliers tighten their credit and payment policies. To survive the economic slowdown and be positioned to prosper when economic conditions improve, it is essential to proactively manage cash.

Are Legacy Custom Reports Holding You Back?

Are you running an older version of Sage MAS 90 ERP? Customers tell us they stay on older versions because of the time and money they spent having custom reports built. Those reports are no doubt essential to running the business effectively, but with versions of Sage MAS 90 that are built in the Business Framework (4.0 and above), there are easier and more dynamic ways to obtain the key information you need.

Selecting A Point Of Sale Solution

Does your organization need a point of sale solution? While the ability to accept payments and quick print Sales Order invoices within Sage MAS 90 ERP may be sufficient for light retail sales, such as the occasional Will Call sale, if your retail sales are expanding, you may need more. There are several point of sale solutions available for Sage MAS 90.

Database Choices for MAS 200 - Native C-ISAM or Microsoft SQL

It has been a long time since we addressed this subject on our website. We posted a database white paper after Sage MAS 200 for SQL was first introduced. There had been much interest in a SQL version of MAS 200 ever since SQL had become a popular technical buzzword and a "de facto" requirement for modern software. But few prospective users understood the trade-offs between SQL and the C-ISAM database intrinsic to the standard version.

Should you trust your data to someone else?

I found an article today about Carbonite, an online backup service, that is suing their supplier, Promise, due to a product that they bought that didn't work. Too bad this supplier wasn't for a door that was not closing properly. Instead they were the supplier for a RAID system that would guaranteethat the backups they have would be available in case of failure. The company (Carbonite) lost 7,500 customers data when drives did fail. I would not want to be one of those customers trusting an outside source to manage my data. Read more about this

If you are worried about your data being backed up, contact us for a quote on our preferred method of backups.

Murphy's Law "If anything can go wrong, it will."

With the new year approaching, there are a few business topics and 2009 goals worth consideration. Many people might think of Murphy in negative terms but it is really quite the opposite. Murphy's Law says that if something can go wrong, it will, and at the most inopportune time. Keeping Murphy in mind is the first step in making a business Murphy-proof.
